3. Where am I?
After a while Dref’s new friends became bored and decided that there was nothing special about him after all, especially as he had formalized and to all intents, he was just the same as them but visiting from another tribe. Suddenly the boss creature moved away from Dref and let out a tremendous high-pitched screech which startled Dref to such an extent that he almost lost his balance and fell out of the tree. By the time he regained his composure, they were all scampering off in different directions, some on the ground and few of the older ones swinging through the trees from branch to branch which Dref thought looked like a lot of fun and he might even have a go himself later on. However, now that he was on his own again, he decided to stay in ‘monkey mode’ for the time being as it helped him blend into these new surroundings.
He clambered back up into the very top of the tree to achieve the best vantage point and have a good look around at the surrounding area now that he was on his own again. The thing that struck him most was the vastness of the jungle which stretched as far as his eye could see, and the cacophony of amazing sounds coming from every direction, but what was lacking, at least from where he was sat, was any sign of the humanoid types that both Mas and his Father Olaban had asked him to look out for. He had quite a lot of time left before the charge ran out on his transponder, which he needed to get back to the mother ship, so he decided to do a bit of exploring and try his hand at travelling through the trees once he climbed down to a lower level.
